“Oh?” Xander said, pulling back and cocking his head at her. “What kind of work would Giles be having you do?” he asked.
“Nothing too big. The Council needs updated pictures of all the demons and non-humans in the castle. So I’ve been drawing them for him, well with the exception of the gods and living vampires,” she explained.
Xander blinked again. “Giles has you-” he twitched a bit. “Isn’t that dangerous? Dawn, you’re gonna get hurt!”
“Dangerous? Xander you know that this place is a haven right? I’m not going to get hurt. I mean a lot of the non-humans in the castle are really nice, not to mention harmless,” Dawn said a bit confused by his reaction. The only time she had been hurt was when Lizzy had attacked her and that was her own fault. “I mean the town is filled with demons and it’s perfectly safe there. I love going there when I can.”
“I’m still not sure what to make of all this,” he said. “It seems like a trap to me.”
“Why would you think that? Xander I promise, this place isn’t a trap,” Dawn said.

“Well, uhm, P-Pip n-needs, well …” He frowned a bit. “We need to back up a-all the, uhm, the Watcher’s Council’s, uhm, books.”
“Pip?” Dawn wondered, the name wasn’t wringing any bells. “So you would need me to take all of the books that the Watcher’s Council uses and the ones that they’ve written over the years and back them up on the computer? I’m not sure I could do that Giles. I mean even if I worked for hours everyday that would still take ages to do, and I’m not even entirely sure how I would do it.”
“Oh-oh, you-you’d, uhm, you’d have help, Dawn,” He said. “Joshua and, uhm, O-Oz would be working a-alongside you. Only a f-few set hours a day.”
Dawn nodded her head. “Joshua? I’m not sure I know him,” she said.
Giles chuckled. “A-and those words p-prove that. Believe me, w-when you meet him, y-you won’t easily f-forget him.”
“Is that good or bad?” Dawn asked with a laugh. “And when do I start this new job?”

He thought for a moment, then looked up at her. “How good are you with computers?”
“I’m okay I guess. I’m not computer savvy but I know my way around one and how to use one,” Dawn said with a shrug.
“Well, I-I, uhm, I might actually h-have a job for you, Dawn, if, uhm, you’d be up to it?” he asked.
“Of course,” Dawn said with a nod of her head. “What is it?”

Xander nodded and his face immediately darkened. “I did,” he said. “She’s adorable.” He didn’t say anymore about it.
“You okay?” Dawn asked. Xander’s voice had changed a bit and he really didn’t look happy.
“Fine!” he said, looking at her and giving her his brightest smile. “So, how’s school coming along?”
“Really well. I just finished this semester and I passed with flying colors,” Dawn said with a grin. She hadn’t talked to Xander in such a long time, the last time she had seen him he was just Xander, not Xander The Watcher.
“Oh, yay!” Xander said, pulling Dawn into a hug. “That’s wonderful!”
Dawn hugged Xander back with a laugh. “Thanks. And I’ve been doing some work for Giles too. It’s been going really well.”

“Th-these are really-really quite excellent,” he said. “A-and I’m gl-glad you’ve taken to this job.” He smiled at her.
“Oh thanks Giles. It’s nothing to great though, I could improve a lot. But I’ve got a lot more time now that finals are over so I’ve been getting more and more done,” Dawn said as she took a seat in front of his desk.
Giles nodded. “Th-that’s good. Y’you’re getting better at balancing your importantces.”
Dawn nodded her head, choosing not to mention that it was now her only importance. “Now that I’m out of school do you have any other work that you need me to do?”
He thought for a moment, then looked up at her. “How good are you with computers?”

“Hey, thanks!” He grinned. “Really?” He glanced around, nodded his head at a couple of the Slayers that walked by, tilting it to watch them walk. “Heh-heh. I don’t see the downside right now. Slayers are nice.”
Dawn gave him a light slap on the arm. “Same old Xander then. Of course you don’t see a downside to it but I’m like the only non-Slayer and non-Watcher here,” Dawn fake pouted. “So, when did you get here?” she wondered.
“Oh, a few hours ago,” he said. He slid his hands into his pockets, started walking slowly. “Been catching up with everybody.”
Dawn began walking next to him, folding the drawings and putting them into her back pocket. “That must be nice. Did you meet Lucy yet?”
Xander nodded and his face immediately darkened. “I did,” he said. “She’s adorable.” He didn’t say anymore about it.
“You okay?” Dawn asked. Xander’s voice had changed a bit and he really didn’t look happy.
